Finest rare craft batch of Assam Green right from our experimentation station at Galakey Valley in Assam. Newly developed production technique has helped in retaining the fresh green appearance in the leaves when stepped. The liquor is clear and bright green with a vegetal nose and a subtle hint of wild flowers. The loosely rolled leaves from the wild assamica varietals unfurl beautifully when stepped in warm water. A perfect healthy cup of green during the day.

About the Galakey Valley, Assam

An enterprising young man Mr. Rebo, planted some tea bushes during the 90s in a small plot of land in his village in Galakey Valley, Assam. He was probably the first in his village to plant teas in such small scale. Mr Rebo even though was a school teacher wanted to grow teas in a small patch of land which he inherited from his father. He took help from the tea garden labourers from a nearby garden who took him to an abandoned tea garden in Nagaland to collect tea seeds. That was the beginning of tea plantation in Galakey Valley by a small farmer. Initially he used to sell the green leaves to the big garden factories, irrespective of what price they get in return, which was mainly decided by the garden. Later the garden was expanded by two of his sons who actively participate in their family business of manufacturing some of the finest handcrafted teas with the leaves from their own organically grown tea garden. During our conversation with Mr Rana (Rebo’s elder son), he recalled the days when he would carry green leaves on his bicycle to sell them off in a factory little away from their village and the factory manager would just bluntly refuse to accept the lot and he would end up throwing the pile into a drain near the factory gate, since they did not know how to manufacture teas. But later with the diminishing scale of green leaf production in the big gardens due to the spraying of harmful chemicals and fertilizers, they started accepting green leaves from the small growers to meet the market demands. Even Rana sprayed chemicals to enhance production with the little knowledge he gained from the big gardens. Things changed when Rana’s two-year-old son got infected by a harmful pesticide, which they were always unaware of. That was when he decided to give up the chemicals and started converting his garden into organic under the guidance of Mr. Dhiren (our group farmer from Rajgarh Valley). Now after 7 years of conversion Rana along with his younger brother Mr. Sanku had together started a micro organic tea factory in May 2016. They follow a typical process of double hand-rolling the teas before drying, which gives a very fine finish to the leaves. His factory has been producing some of the finest rare green and black teas for us. Both the brothers love experimenting with different forms and different techniques of tea production. This factory also serves as The Tea Leaf Theory's experimentation centre where we have discovered several ways of producing some fo the finest artisanal Oolong, White, Green and Black teas from the Assamica clones.
